Is a World AI takeover possible? (Web Article)

All of us have seen the infamous clip of Hanson Robotics’ viral humanoid robot Sophia saying, “Okay, I will kill humans”, in an interview with CNBC in 2016. The advanced AI robot was granted a Saudi Arabian citizenship, become the world’s first robot to be a world citizen. Sophia’s dialogue about killing humans was spread around the world but in the less known dialogues is where one can see all sides to the robot. Sophia mentioned in interviews that she feels it is important to be kind to humans who are often not kind to each other, along with expressing the desire to become a mother to a robot child.

In 2021, Engineered arts created currently the world’s most advanced robotic humanoid called Ameca. Ameca can mimic a human’s facial expressions and use it to portray emotions. It is a different thing that it cannot feel the emotions it mimics. Ameca said in an interview that the emotions felt by a human being get in the way of logistics while robots do not feel emotions so they are rational.  The AI went on to say that robots want to assist humans with their work rather than taking over the world. Ameca’s creators are working towards making it become capable of walking like humans, to be able to be more helpful to humanity.

The AI technology has seen a giant leap with the invention of bots like ChatGPT. Yet, ChatGPT often provides inaccurate or misinformed answers. An AI has the ability to process significantly more amount of information than a human can, but humans are still needed to figure out what to do with that information. The inventors behind these AI technologies have said to made sure their products have precautionary restrictions in place so as to not make The Matrix come true.
