Understanding Chat GPT: Boon or Bane? (News Report)

Chat GPT is a new Artificial Intelligence software that is reaching new heights of

popularity within less than 2 months of its release. It is a language processing tool which

generates text for a user when provided with a few prompts. The user can utilize it to generate

texts, essays, articles, computer programs, translate texts, summarize information, or even

simply use it as a search engine to look something up.

Chat GPT also has the ability to write poetry, fairytales, teleplays, song lyrics and compose

music. Future bots like this can potentially put an end to creative thinking. When all art can be

produce at the touch of a few buttons, no one would put in the effort of using their imagination.

Students have starting using the bot to write their essays and answer their tests. Professor

Terwiesch of University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School conducted a research on the bot

and found that it was able to pass the final test conducted for admission in the school’s Master

of Business Administration program. Teachers have started making their students submit

handwritten assignments to prevent them from using such bots. AI chatbots can pose a threat

to the system of education int the future.

On the other hand, people have been using Chat GPT to generate test questions, course outlines,

learning objectives, and use it as a virtual teaching assistant. It can also be used by call centers

to generate fast and accurate responses. It can also help lessen the time working individuals

spend on tedious tasks like data entry and categorization, providing them with more time to

perform crucial tasks.

Some of the bots have in-built limitations which refrain them from providing medical advice

or political advice, but these restrictions are not enough to stop people from misusing these

softwares. AI bots like Chat GPT can be a boon or bane, it all depends on the way we choose

to utilize them.
