Abstract

The following report is on the evaluation of the new organic mattress- Airspring, launched by the company- Damoar, on 20th January,2022. The mattress was tested by the product evaluation committee of Damoar. The testing was done through overviewing the work of the design team, field visits to the manufacturing centre, and functionality tests conducted by the product evaluation team. The Airspring mattress is made of organic materials, is manufactured by machines to ensure uniformity and has been defined as the mattress which “makes you feel like you’re sleeping on air”, by the product evaluation team.

 Preface

 I would like to thank the members of the product evaluation committee-Ms. Shalini Sandh, Mr. Gopal Krishna, Dr. Poojita Maherty, Dr. Neelam Charaborty, Dr. Assim Hari, and Dr. Sachin Sinha- for their hardwork on this report. I would also like to thank the design team- Mr. Ajay Chauhan, Ms. Pratiksha Singh, Mr. Prakash Chawla and Ms. Rasika Bansal- for their design of the mattress. I would also like to thank the Chief Operating Officer- Mr. Ravi Kothari, for ensuring a smooth process of manufacturing the mattress.

 Findings

 Materials:

·       The outer lining of the mattress comes in two options- cotton and linen

·       The inner sponge of the mattress is made of natural latex

The materials used make the mattress naturally resistant to dust mites, mould and bacteria.

 

Manufacturing:

·       The manufacturing process is done my machines which ensures precision and uniformity.

·       Each mattress after being manufactured goes through a final check done by employees at the centre.

 

Functionality

·       The mattress provides strong support for the spine along with relieving pressure points in the back

·       The mattress also provides motion isolation due to being made of latex

·       The use of organic materials makes the mattress natural Temperature Control properties, keeping cool in summers and warm in winters.

Conclusion

The mattress is made of organic, recyclable and eco-friendly materials. It has anti-bacterial properties which is provided only with use of natural materials. Its functionality is proven to provide the feeling of “sleeping on air” while also relieving pressure in the body, as claimed.

Recommendations

  •  The mattress should be made reversible
  •  The edges of the mattress should be made softer for a smoother look
  • The outer lining should be detachable to make it washable

  Case Study: On2Cook  The idea to make a cooking device that would shorten the time required to cook something  and consume less energy while doing it came to the Sanandan Sudhir in 2013. The first  iteration of the product came with the magnetron on top of the stove, realised that the heat  from the stove going directly to the magnetron made the product unstable.
